How to get unbogged without gear
Getting bogged happens to everyone eventually, but before you reach for recovery gear, there are a couple of tricks worth trying.
How to get unbogged without gear

First up, drop your tyre pressures. A set of Bridgestone Dueler A/T 697 tyres will create a much larger footprint when aired down, helping the tyres float over soft sand instead of digging in. Around 16-18 psi is a good starting point, but don't be afraid to go lower, like heaps lower. I regularly see single figures when in soft sand.

Next, grab a shovel and dig. Clearing the built-up sand or mud from in front of all four tyres reduces resistance and gives the vehicle a much easier path to climb out. Once you've dug a gradual ramp, use smooth, steady throttle. Wheelspin will only bury you deeper.

The key is patience. A few minutes spent lowering tyre pressures and digging can often save a lot of time and effort, getting you moving again without ever unpacking the recovery gear. Once out of trouble, make sure you pump a bit of air back into your tyres, especially if you're hitting the blacktop.
