Strong start for Davison in Adelaide

Will Davison has made a great start to his driving career with the Bridgestone-backed Holden Racing Team, with two strong races at the season-opening V8 Supercar event in Adelaide.

Davison finished his debut race for HRT with third place in Saturday's race before going one better on Sunday with a flawless drive for second.

"I'm absolutely thrilled. I just wanted to get through the two races and learn about the car but this is a dream debut," Will said.

"The car was fantastic. It really all comes down to the team and how they've welcomed me with open arms. Garth and the team have been so open with me and they've put everything into me settling in."

Teammate Garth Tander looked set for a good result on Saturday before suffering mechanical problems but he turned that around in the second 250-kilometre race with third place.

"The speed of the car at the start of the race was very good. Will just managed to get by me when I was on cold tyres after my pit stop but third is a really good result after the disappointment of Saturday," he said.

Ford rival and reigning V8 Supercar champion Jamie Whincup made the perfect start to his title defence with pole position and back-to-back wins to lead the standings after one round.

The teams now travel to Melbourne for the non-championship races at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix.
