Top Ten Finish for Kelly in Auckland
The Bridgestone-backed Jack Daniel's Racing team has taken a significant step forward in the V8 Supercars Championship with Rick Kelly taking a top ten finish at the ITM 400 Auckland.
The Nissan Altima driver finished 10th in Race 8 of the Championship having started from 15th. Rick Kelly remained calm and moved forward as other drivers ahead continued to make mistakes, which took them out of the race.
While he couldn't repeat the feat in Race 9 later in the day, thanks in part to a difficult qualifying session, the weekend marked a significant step forward for the entire Nissan Motorsport team.
Teammate Todd Kelly also enjoyed a positive event and although he didn't break into the top 10, he finished both races inside the top 15 to score some solid championship points.
"It's a really strong improvement from the last round. We finished 10th overall for the weekend on points and that for us is fantastic," Rick said.
"All in all we've got to be really happy with the weekend. It's a strong improvement from last time - we're running with cars we couldn't at the last round, and we've just got to keep chipping away as we've been doing."
The next round of the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship will be held in Perth at Barbagallo Raceway on May 3-5.
