MIXED WEEKEND FOR HRT IN TOWNSVILLE
There are a couple of major milestones in the offing for the Bridgestone-backed Holden Racing Team after the weekend's V8 Supercar racing in Townsville.
Garth Tander is now on 49 career wins after his victory in Saturday's opening race, while HRT is just one win away from the magical 200 mark since its inception in 1990.
"The car was very good in the race. We started fifth and moved up at the start and the car was just absolutely amazing," Tander said.
"I was able to pull a gap over Jamie Whincup and win. I'm absolutely stoked; it's great to win after such a tough weekend in Darwin."
However, HRT couldn't maintain their good fortune in Sunday's race. Despite a strong start by both drivers, a broken shock mount ended Tander's hopes of a repeat victory, while teammate James Courtney received a drive through penalty for contact with Tim Slade and finished 19th.
Whincup won Sunday's race which means he has now won 50% of the races held in Townsville since 2009, and has made eleven podium appearances in this year's 15 championship races.
