DISAPPOINTMENT FOR TANDER AT WINTON
Garth Tander fought for the lead for much of round 11 of the V8 Supercar Championship, but in the end he could only watch as Jason Bright took home the silverware from Winton.
Tander - driving a Bridgestone-sponsored Holden Racing Team Commodore with Dunlop control tyres - battled series leader Jamie Whincup for the lead for much of the race before his speed fell away.
Jason Bright's fresher tyres proved the difference. He overtook Tander and then hauled in Whincup to take his second victory in the past two rounds.
It was a frustrated Tander who came home in third place.
"Our race pace is fine but our consistency is not what it needs to be. I'm happy to be third considering our tyres fell off so badly in yesterday's race and we lost I think seven spots in the last five laps. We have certainly got some work to do," Tander said.
"We will just keep chipping away, grinding the results and see where the year takes us."
Whincup's second place cemented his lead in the championship with Tander in third place behind Craig Lowndes.
The next round of the V8 Supercars is at Darwin's Hidden Valley Raceway on June 17.
