Bridgestone Congratulates Davison and Tander
The Bridgestone-backed Holden Racing Team (HRT) might not have driven away with the major prize - the V8 Supercars Drivers' Championship - but 2009 was still a year with plenty to celebrate.
That was doubly true for Will Davison on Monday night when he was recognised at the V8 Supercars gala dinner with the 2009 Barry Sheene Medal as the best and fairest driver in the category.
It capped off a memorable year for the HRT rookie who won both endurance races with teammate Garth Tander but just missed out on the championship to Ford's Jamie Whincup.
"This is an overwhelming moment just to be voted the best and fairest in the name of someone like Barry Sheene," Davison said.
"I met him a couple of times as a young fellow and he was clearly so loved and respected by so many people in this industry. It's just a huge honour."
Davison and Tander finished second and third in the drivers' championship, a result which helped HRT clinch the Championship Team of the Year title with 5650 points, less than 100 points clear of Team Vodafone.
Bridgestone Australia Ltd. Managing Director Shawn Hara paid tribute to HRT and its drivers.
"It was a very exciting championship, with HRT in a position to challenge for the drivers' title right up until the last race," Mr Hara said.
"On behalf of everyone at Bridgestone, I would like to congratulate Garth and Will on a fantastic year. We are very proud to support HRT and we're confident they'll be able to go one better next year."
