60 Anniversary of Motorsport Activities
Bridgestone Corporation has announced its 2023 motorsport plan, marking the 60th anniversary of its motorsport activities. The focus this year is on sustainability and evolving global motorsport activities in a new way while continuing to support various domestic and overseas motorsports by supplying Bridgestone Potenza tyres and Firestone Firehawk tyres for car races and Bridgestone Battlax tyres for motorcycle races.

As a company, Bridgestone is committed to supporting the movement of cars with safety and peace of mind in races where drivers are repeatedly challenged under extreme conditions and situations. The fundamental principle of “tyres carry life” has guided Bridgestone to focus on quality, respect for being on-site, being attentive and supportive of customer problems, and challenging spirit as part of its four “Bridgestone DNA”. The aim is to strengthen sustainable global motorsport activities in the future to achieve carbon neutrality and circular economy, taking a big step towards “the global journey to the extreme” again.

Bridgestone supplies tyres for SUPER GT car races and All Japan Road Race Championship motorcycle races in Japan. Overseas, the Firestone brand is the exclusive tyre supplier for the NTT INDYCAR® SERIES in North America, and Bridgestone supplies tyres for the Endurance World Championship (EWC) and other overseas races. Bridgestone also supports grassroots motorsports, including the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GR86/BRZ Cup, All-Japan Gymkhana Championship, and Mazda’s grassroots motorsport races.

The company will continue to refine its technologies, comprehensive capability, and brand power through various races, including top-level races around the globe that require maximum tyre performance under extreme conditions and situations, as well as providing “driving excitement.”

Bridgestone is proud to support the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, a world-leading solar car race held in Australia and has been the title sponsor since 2013. Its motorsport initiatives have been awarded the prestigious Three Star of Environmental Accreditation from FIA, the not-for-profit world governing body of motorsport. In 2023, Bridgestone will become an official partner and sponsor of the Bridgestone FIA ecoRally Cup, an international competition for road production vehicles with an electric drivetrain by FIA, expanding its role in supporting sustainable global motorsport activities.

As part of the 60th anniversary celebrations, Bridgestone is establishing the Bridgestone eMotorsport Institute, which will offer eMotorsport lessons by professional racing drivers, and launching the POTENZA Circuit Challenge (PCC), an open-participation event that offers beginners the opportunity to take their first drive around the circuit. Through such initiatives that combine real and digital racing, the aim is to broadcast the appeal and enjoyment of motorsport and to broaden the base of motorsport fans.

The goal is to provide "Driving Excitement" in 10 years, 20 years, and beyond, achieving Bridgestone's corporate commitment to inspire excitement and spread joy to the world of mobility. Bridgestone's commitment to sustainability and evolving global motorsport activities is admirable, and it is exciting to see what the future holds for the company's motorsport initiatives.
